Several previous blog posts have provided information on progress with the construction of the new Dental School / Integrated Teaching Facility on the Blantyre Campus of Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.
The building work continues and there has been a recent site visit by Leon Grobbelaar from John McAslan + Partners, who spent time working with the contractor, Mango Tree Construction Company, in collaboration with the local team of architects, engineers and surveyors. A number of issues around procurement and supplies have now been resolved.
There was also a visit to the construction site on 18th September by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science & Technology, Honourable Francis Folley MP, accompanied by the Secretary for Education, Science & Technology, the Director of Higher Education and the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project Manager.
On the morning of Monday 21st September, shortly after my arrival back in Malawi, Dr James Mchenga, Dr Peter Chimimba and I took a tour of the construction site with the Executive Dean of the School of Medicine & Oral Health, Professor Wakisa Mulwafu. It was a very informative visit which engendered significant discussion about the next steps in establishing the building as a fully functioning, versatile and valuable resource for the KUHeS campus.

The progress in construction of the building from May 2025 has been captured in a short video which can be viewed here.
We look forward to providing further updates as the construction continues towards completion.
