During a recent meeting of the Malawi Cross Party Group at Holyrood, I met a Scotland Malawi Partnership (SMP) member who told me about a project called 48toInfinity, which is trying to amplify the presence of Malawian women on the internet. They have added over 100 women to Wikipedia and that’s a key resource for AI. They want to ensure that girls browsing the internet will find role models.
48toInfinity is a virtual organisation that is hosted at the Gender and Justice Unit in Lilongwe. One of its Scottish members lauded the SMP’s decision to change the licensing of their images (99.99% of all images cannot be freely used). Their decision has led to similar decisions by the Malawi Scotland Partnership and the Southern African Women’s Football Association (COSAFA). One of the SMP’s donated images is accessed 10,000 times every month.
